A‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍nalysis Plan Assignment Using a (very small) mock “data set” provided in the Electronic Reserves tab on Blackboard, develop a plan for analyzing the data explaining the analytic approach you would take relating it to a theoretical position, plan for analysis, and a coding scheme. In other words, you are writing an explanation of an analysis plan as you would in reporting for any qualitative study (even though this is a quite limited mock data set). Based on the very general research question: How do young people understand their experiences learning a musical instrument?, you can choose analytic strategies as discussed in the course and other methods literature with which you may be familiar. For example, you might approach this very open-ended question from a particular theoretical position that informs your analytic strategies. Explain this citing appropriately. Another example could be ways you might also consider a methodological approach and the analytic strategies within that tradition. Whatever your decisions are for this “mock” study, your assignment should thoughtfully incorporate scholarly sources from methods texts (either from this course or others you have encountered) that strengthen your explanations of the decisions you made in developing the protocol. You will begin by reading through the data “Mock Data Set” in the Electronic Reserves Tab and writing a‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍n analytic memo (Saldaña chapter 2 might be particularly helpful in thinking through this memo). Then, you will develop codes and develop a plan for if you were to analyze the data. Additionally, include a mock codebook with 5-15 codes and definitions based on what you are seeing after reading the entire “data set”. The “Mock Data Set” includes: Piano Journey Journal (pages from a journal created by the young person in this study) Mock Transcript Simply Piano (part of a lesson) video Original Song Clip video Elliott Intro Video (she gives some insights in this video, it’s a bit lengthy, so you can feel free to stop the video at 3 minutes, or you can feel free to watch the whole thing ~11 minutes). You should read/use all of these data sources to inform your analysis plan.
