For this assignment, you are to watch The Great American Lie and write a documentary report on it. DURING THE FILM Write down some of the striking features of the film, like speakers, scenes, stories, themes, and messages. This is important because you will need to be specific when writing about the film (e.g., specific names of speakers in the film, descriptions of scenes you found important or had a significant reaction to). Be sure to write down at least ONE or TWO quotes that really caught your attention. Don’t be afraid to pause the film. AFTER THE FILM Part 1: Summary (at least 200 words) You will need to provide a description of the film that reflects evidence of having watched the documentary in its entirety. Your description of the film should be sufficiently detailed to demonstrate to that you have watched the entire film — it should include information from the beginning, middle, and end of the film. Be sure to include the overall takeaway message(s) of the film. This section should also contain answers to the following questions: What are the primary drivers of economic immobility and inequality in the United States? Who benefits from economic inequality? Who is harmed? Part 2: What I Learned/Reactions to the Film (at least 300 words) Provide a discussion on things you have learned AND your overall reactions to the film as well as reactions to certain scenes in the film.
