For this Canvas Learning Activity, you will draw on your viewing of Ava DuVernay’s 13th to consider how your perspectives on crime, incarceration, and justice have shifted over time. Which images, texts, stories, and/or experiences most influenced your perspective on prisons, and how has that perspective changed? How did DuVernay’s documentary contribute to those changes and what did it clarify/reveal about the afterlife of slavery? Please be very analytical as the teacher is very against summarization. I am not sure if you have access to Netflix but the film is available there.
