Independent Novel Synthesis Essay Grade 10 Type of essay: Synthesis Essay Novel: Lord of the Flies by William Golding Instructions: 1. Choose 3 theme topics of the novel, choose a song that shares the same theme. (So 3 songs in total) 2. Write a synthesis essay in which each paragraph compares the novel and a song. 3. For each paragraph, find three points of comparison. State them and use quotes and paraphrases. Explain the similarities of the themes. 4. There must be a thesis statement and a conclusion. Note: One song I found was “Lord of the Flies” by Iron Maiden, but I don’t know the other two. Therefore, you can find them. Your choice of song as long as it fits in here. I also found some quotes: 1. “There isn’t anyone to help you. Only me. And I’m the Beast. Fancy thinking the beast was something you could hunt and kill!” (Golding 143) 2. “Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of man’s heart, and the fall through the air of a true, wise friend called Piggy.” (Golding 202) 3. His mind was crowded with memories; memories of the knowledge that had come to them when they closed in on the struggling pig, knowledge that they had outwitted a living thing, imposed their will upon it, taken away its life like a long satisfying drink.” (Golding 70) Thank you!
