However, the purpose is not to come up with answers or proposals yet. It should consist of the following parts: Introduction: The field or subarea of revenue management that will be studied. Why is this important for the industry? Note, you do not need to provide a separate abstract, even if this is a common practice in academic writing. Review of key theoretical literature: What is known in the field or subarea chosen? What is missing? The latter is the justification for the research proposed. Research question: the main question the proposed research aims to answer. This should contribute to knowledge deemed missing during literature review. The question should be specific enough to allow answering it within the length of the thesis (See the thesis manual for details on the requirements and details of the thesis). For example: “How can hotels use revenue management to improve performance?” would be too vague to be a feasible research question, as it would cover all possible RM subfields and all types of hotels at once. Additionally, there is already a lot of information on such a general topic, while we lack knowledge on more detailed areas. Compare this with a potential research question of “How can luxury hotels benefit from total revenue management practices?” – The question specifi‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍es a certain segment of hotels, and focuses on a detailed subfield with RM. Planned data sources and how data collection could be conducted. If you later go ahead and start conducting the research you propose now, how and where would you collect data? These should be suggestions and ideas of what the appropriate sample should be, and whether you would use surveys, interviews, or some other methods. Do not try to collect data at this point. Proposed value of the study in terms of RM knowledge and managerial practice: What will answering the research question contribute to RM theory, and how can it help managers? Obviously, you do not have the answer yet, so you only need to consider its potential value, not try to guess eventual findings, or develop findings based on the literature review. This should tie with the importance of the study presented in the Introduction. Reference list See attached grading rubric, which will be adapted to fit the chosen research topic with revenue management. For example, if the chosen RM topic does not consider interpreting pricing psychology, this criterion will be adapted to interpretation of the theory relevant to the proposed research topic. Instead of evaluating value of revenue management tactics and strategies (LO5), the evaluation will focus on the value of the proposed research question to revenue managers in practice and in contributing to theoretical knowledge, and feasibility of planned data collection and sour‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ces
