The reflection should demonstrate that you are able to succinctly and effectively convey to anyone that you
fully understand the readings and material reviewed. The reflection should also demonstrate that you have
reviewed the material and can make personal and professional connections with it. The way you write this
should be remembered for a very long time, and in this way, it’s your ‘deep’ reflection on what you ‘takeaway’ from the material personally and professionally.
The reflection should also demonstrate knowledge of the author’s perspective, a thorough understanding
through analysis (not simply what was stated); but, a deeper linkage and its contribution to the overall
betterment of Indigenous health and wellness. The reflection should attend to the 5 W’s at a minimum (what,
where, when, who, and why); but, it may also incorporate ‘key messages’ and main ‘take-away’ messages.
A reflection paper is your identification of the main
themes of the readings integrated with your classroom experience and how both
affect your thinking and practice. A reflection paper is your chance to add your thoughts and analysis to what
you have read and experienced. A reflection paper is meant to illustrate your understanding of the material and
how it affects your ideas and possible practice in future.
Begin by jotting down some of the reading material and class experiences that
stand out in your mind. Decide why they stand out to you. It may be helpful to use the restorative questions to generate some of your
thoughts and feelings about the course experience.
Using the first person singular (“I”), relate the readings and classes to your
previous knowledge and experience. *Please look at provided “Sample” for a reference of what the final product should look like.”
